Polymer is inexpensive and is easy to find at any craft store. Most of my clay scrap is sculpey 3 so it has a shorter. It can be baked and hardened (cured) at relatively low temperatures in a home oven. If not, pull gently with your fingers from one edge or all around the outer edges till the cast is free.
